Ohio University's African Studies Program and Center for International Studies visit CAS
Further strengthening our partnership, CAS hosted Ohio University’s African Studies Program (ASP) and Center for International Studies (CIS) for a full day of meetings and activities aimed at strengthening our partnership. The members of OU's delegation were Dr. Ghirmai Negash (Director, African Studies Program), Dr. Haley Duschinski (Director, Center for International Studies), Dr. Cat Cutcher (Assistant Director, African Studies Program), and Dr. Zelalem Haile (Director, Global Health). The day began at 10:15am at OIA where a light breakfast was served and Associate Vice Provost, Fernando Unzueta provided an overview of OIA to the delegation. Next, the delegation was given a guided tour of the Wexner Center’s new Rotimi exhibition before attending a working lunch session at the Hale Black Cultural Center with members of OIA, Areas Studies Center, and Ohio State’s Africanist community. Following the lunch, the delegation headed to Thompson Library where the Assistant Dean for Special Collections and Area Studies, Dr. Musa Okala, gave the group a tour of his section. The day ended back at OIA where private talks were held between the OU delegation and CAS. Several milestones were established. The group decided to establish a MOU and a task force to implement agreed initiatives. The delegation also agreed to co-host next year’s Association of African Studies Programs (AASP) annual meeting jointly with CAS at Ohio State.
