MAU attends Southeast Conference
For the first time, OSU Model African Union students attended the Regional Southeast Simulation sponsored by Savannah State University November 8-10th. As with the national conference held in Washington, DC, students represented two countries (Somalia and Cabo Verde), drafting resolutions to promote economic, social, and political prosperity, and participating in formal debate to consolidate ideas into cohesive joint resolutions. Savannah State and other participating colleges and universities hosted sessions that was both instructive to first-time delegates as well as challenging to more experienced students. The active participation of the African Union’s ambassador to the U.S., Her Excellency Chihombori-Quao, throughout the summit was inspiring for all. Ohio State students prepared and distinguished themselves in their participation, and won the following awards: Outstanding Delegation Awardees (voted by peer delegates) Aminata Diop // Economic Matters Committee // Somalia Matondo Ngemba // Pan-Africanism Committee // Somalia Baffoa Baffoe-Essilfie // Peace and Security Committee // Cape Verde Outstanding Delegation Awardees - Honorable Mention Bakar Berete // Executive Council // Somalia Moro Alhassan // Executive Council // Cape Verde Chuck Njoku// Economic Matters // Cape Verde Hamdi Mohamed // Democracy and Human Rights Committee // Somalia Committee Leadership Award (voted by dias officers) Aminata Diop // Economic Matters Committee // Somalia
