CAS at the Columbus African Festival

Center for African Studies at Columbus African Festival

CAS participated in the annual Columbus African Festival (CAF) at Genoa Park.  The festival which took place from July 27 to 28 is a celebration of Africa in Ohio.  CAF is an excellent venue to not only teach diverse communities about Africa, but to demonstrate the positive role that African immigrants have in our community.  The celebration included cultural programs, exquisite gastronomy, and merchants selling African wood art, clothing, jewelry, and more.

CAS staff was joined by its student ambassadors Ruth Tangor, Jalahan Kamara, and Sam Patchen.  Also, joining the CAS team were CAS affiliate faculty members:  Dr. Jennah Morgan (Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center), Dr. Shavagne Scott (African American and African Studies), and Dr. Brooks Marmon (Mershon Center).  Dr. Uzoma Miller of Ohio University also joined the CAS team strengthening the renewed CAS-ASP partnership.  Lastly, Dr. Felix Kumah-Abiwu, the director of Kent State’s Center for African Studies visited the CAS booth.  He and the assistant director of CAS discussed avenues of collaboration.
