Join interested students, faculty and staff to discuss “The International Criminal Court and Africa: Implications for Justice and Sovereignty” on Friday, November 15th from 2-4:00 pm in Hale Hall 110B.
Since the ICC was set up in 2002, majority of its defendants have been Africans. Most recently, the case against Kenyan leaders for their alleged role in the 2007 post-presidential election riots has elicited a new debate about sovereignty, international law and justice. In light of the recent AU recommendations that no sitting head of state should appear at the ICC and the threat to withdraw from the ICC unless African sovereignty is respected, what are the implications for Africa’s future? What can we learn from the mainstream and alternative media narratives? And what is the way forward?
Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome. contact cas@osu.edu for more information.
