Ohio State University is engaged in a variety of partnerships with a number of Ethiopian universities and research institutes. The One Health Partnership integrates academicians and practitioners from Ohio State and select East African countries to leverage their knowledge, skills and resources to contribute to improving biologic and economic health. OSU Health Sciences faculty, staff, and students partner with colleagues from the Addis Ababa University and the University of Gondar, as well as with government and non-profit organizations. Collaborative, interdisciplinary projects focus on Rabies, Cervical Cancer, Communications, Environmental Health, and a variety of parallel projects. Faculty development takes place through different types of exchange. Some are longer-term exchanges, with Fulbright or Fogarty sponsorship, while the One Health Summer Institutes offer shorter-term certificate courses.
A growing number of OSU departments also collaborate with Ethiopian partner institutions, including The Colleges of Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Sciences, Social Work, Education and Human Ecology, Fisher College of Business, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and the College of Engineering.
The Center for African Studies currently leads a US State Department program to build capacity in Study Abroad administration and undergraduate education. The grant has hosted exchange of more than a dozen faculty and staff so far, with another dozen or so anticipated to pursue professional and academic capacity-building activities with partner universities through 2015. The first OSU undergraduate study abroad program to Ethiopia took place in May 2014, through the Ethiopia International Field Study program. Twelve students from Engineering, Public Health, International Studies, Social Work and Environmental Sciences attended classes at the University of Gondar and took part in field studies related to their majors.
